English 101.10 -- Language and Composition I

Paper 5: Primary Research

First-hand research that involves a researcher gathering his or her own data is called 'primary research'. Research using published sources is 'secondary' research.
For this paper, you will focus on gathering and interpreting primary research, such as interviews, surveys, opinion polls, or observations. You may combine several of these research options, and are also encouraged to include secondary sources (magazines, journals, or websites). The paper can be about any reasonable topic. We will work together in class to brainstorm possibiliities.

Your paper should be geared toward a specific audience and forum of your choice, with a format that is approriate for that audience and forum.

If two or more people want to write about the same thing and would like to combine either their research or writing efforts, you may do so. Please document your collaboration in your process writings.

The paper should be 5-7 pages, double spaced in a 10-12 point font. See the Course Requirements page for more information about what needs to be turned in with your paper in order for it to be considered complete.

The final unit draft of this paper is due on Friday, at the end of the eleventh week of class. Bring your rough drafts in progress with you each day to class until then.
